Play8oy: what the SCORE bar means and which games to open first

Every Play8oy slot I've looked at starts with the same gold star coin in the top left corner, and next to it a single word: SCORE. That's your balance. There's no account number printed beside it in any of the screenshots we have, which is a small mercy if you ever share one. Once you know the few bars that repeat from game to game, the rest of the app is easy to read.

Getting in, topping up and cashing out

Play8oy isn't a website you register on. Players in Malaysia get a game ID and password from an agent, then install the app. It doesn't come from Google Play or the App Store, so on Android you have to allow installs from unknown sources, and on iPhone you have to trust a developer profile in Settings. The Play8oy install notes go through both, with the checks worth doing before you tap "allow".

Money never goes to Play8oy itself. You top up with the agent, usually by bank transfer to a local account or an e-wallet, depending on who you deal with, and they load credit onto your ID. Withdrawals, the "cuci", go back through the same agent. So the agent is the real risk here, not the reels. Ask how long a cuci takes and what the minimum is before you send anything. Keep your first top-up small until you've seen money come back.

There are other risks worth knowing. An app installed outside the stores gets no review, can stop working after an update, and you have no one to complain to if an agent disappears with your balance.

The bars you'll see in most games

The top bar holds SCORE on the left, then four jackpot counters on most slots: GRAND, MAJOR, MINOR and MINI. On the right are three buttons: "i" for the paytable, a gear for settings and a house for the lobby. A few games change this. Some drop the counters entirely, one has a single JACKPOT box, and one adds its own DRAGON, PHOENIX, TIGER and HORSE counters.

The bottom bar is where your money goes:

• LINES: the number of paylines. In the games we've covered that's 9, 15, 20, 25 or 50.
• PLAY with minus and plus: the bet per line.
• TOTAL PLAY: what one spin actually costs. At PLAY 4 on 25 lines, that's 100.
• WIN: the last result.
• SPIN: tap to spin, hold for autospin.

A few games swap LINES for something else: GOLD SYMBOL on the gold-animal ways games, LEVEL on another ways game, and a DOUBLE button on the fruit machine.

One rule is worth learning early. Several slots have a JACKPOT BET box on the paytable that ties your share of the jackpot to your stake, typically 50% from a bet of 50 and 100% from 100. Check that box before you decide your bet size.

A short tour of the games

The nine-line games are the classic Play8oy shape. Most pay from both left and right, and many have an "All Same" payout for a full screen of one symbol. Monkey King is a clean example, with Sun Wukong paying 1000 for five and 5000 for a full screen. God of Wealth adds two kinds of wild and red wilds that unfold into whole reels.

The bigger line games run 20 to 50 lines. Pirate is the one to read for the jackpot bet rule and its Bomb Wild on reel three.

The ways games drop lines altogether. Fortune Tree uses 243 ways and a GOLD SYMBOL bet, and in our screenshots the animals only show up in gold at the higher setting.

Then there are the oddities. Fire Spin is a 3x3 fruit machine that also pays for matching symbols anywhere on the grid. Amazon Jungle swaps reels for a honeycomb of seven animal badges and has a temple bonus you walk through room by room.

Two games aren't slots at all. Ocean King 2 EX Club is a fishing game where you can lock a table with a room code for friends. Animal Band is a timed betting round on a wheel of cartoon animals, with odds from 4 to 46.
