Pirate: 20 lines, a bomb wild on reel three and a jackpot bet rule

Most of the useful information in Pirate sits in three small boxes on the paytable: BONUS, WILD and BOMB WILD. Once you've read them, the reels make more sense.

The game is a 5x3 grid of cartoon pirates in round portraits, set against the rigging of a ship with the sea behind. There's a pirate captain with a hook, a spyglass pirate, a woman pirate, a stout pirate holding a tankard and a bearded gunner with a cannonball, plus a parrot, a galleon, a skull-and-crossbones flag, a flintlock pistol and crossed swords. Numbered tabs on both sides mark the 20 paylines. The bet panel in all three shots reads LINES 20, PLAY 5, TOTAL PLAY 100, and the usual GRAND, MAJOR, MINOR and MINI counters run across the top.

One spin in the set paid 30, with three lines drawn across the reels. I've left that screenshot out because the winning symbol is shown large and highlighted, and that art is a bit racy for this guide.

Wilds, the bonus and the jackpot rule

The regular WILD only lands on reels 2, 3 and 4 and stands in for anything except Bonus. The Bomb Wild is the interesting one. It appears on reel 3 only and "will randomly change symbols which are close to WILD", so one bomb in the middle can spread wilds to the tiles around it. Three or more Bonus symbols anywhere on an active payline start the Pirate Battle bonus game. I haven't seen that bonus screen, so I can't tell you how it plays.

The pay figures are readable. The hook-handed captain pays 1000 for five, 300 for four, 75 for three and 4 for two. The spyglass pirate pays 800, the woman 600, the tankard pirate 500 and the gunner 400. The parrot is 300, the galleon 250, the flag 200, the pistol 150 and the swords 100 for five.

The part people miss is the JACKPOT BET box. A minimum bet of 50 gets you a 50% share and 100 or more gets 100%. At PLAY 5 on 20 lines you're at 100, so that bet qualifies in full.
