Nian Nian You Yu, a nine-line Lunar New Year slot

年年有余. Every Chinese New Year you'll hear it at least once, usually from an auntie handing over an angpau: may you have more than enough, year after year. The 余 sounds like the word for fish, which is why fish turn up on so much CNY decoration.

The slot keeps it simple. Nine lines, marked 1 to 9 on red lanterns down both sides. A temple roof across the top with fireworks behind it. Reels painted like red lacquer panels.

The symbols are the whole festive spread: strings of firecrackers, a bamboo steamer of buns, a plate of dumplings, a red 福 diamond, a paper lantern, plum blossom, a stack of red packets, a bowl of mandarin oranges, two lion dance heads and a gold-on-blue 年年有余 tile.

The panel along the bottom reads LINES, BET, TURBO MODE OFF, AUTO PALY (yes, that's how it's spelt) and SPIN. Turbo just speeds the reels up. My opening shot was all 9 lines at 0.90; the rest were 1 line at 0.01 while I watched how the symbols fell.

Two things I couldn't explain from the screenshots. A gold "Dollar Ball ENABLE" badge sits top left, and a red PROGRESSIVE JACKPOT ticker scrolls under the roof with a number that never came fully into view. Neither has a help page in my set, so check inside the game.
